Being a trainer is one of the best roles in Girlguiding and I have tried a few others so I have plenty to compare it with. It is always rewarding to work with adults knowing that what we all want is to make the quality of the guiding we offer the best it can be.
I have been a Senior Section leader in Whitley Bay for many years and this is the section I am most comfortable training. I have always loved the outdoors and so any aspect of activity which gets girls outside for adventure is what I love to promote. Having recently been a commissioner and just given up a career in education leadership, all aspects of leadership development and management interest me. At the moment I am part of the association county commissioner training team which offers support to all new and existing county commissioners but the challenges and pleasures of being a commissioner don’t really change at any level.
Travel both within and without guiding is a great interest to me and having enjoyed some fantastic international opportunities I am always happy to look at the international aspect of guiding.
Currently most training time seems to be delivering safe space training- surprisingly enjoyable and always well received these are sessions everyone needs to access. Whatever session I am leading I always try to make sure there is plenty to think about, plenty to inspire and something to take home for the unit.
I will travel anywhere and as I am not working full time I can travel mid week, lead daytime sessions as well as week-ends if that helps.
