Walking Qualification Weekend

Learn the skills of navigation and start working towards a qualification to enable you to take girls out walking and to supervise DofE bronze expeditions.
If you have already attended an approved Level 2 walking training, you can be assessed during this weekend.

Girlguiding North East England is holding its annual autumn walking weekend in Osmotherley, North Yorkshire and you are welcome to join us!
Osmotherley is on the Western edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. Near to the Cleveland Hills and the Hambleton Hills it is a popular centre with walkers. The Cleveland Way and the Lyke Wake Walk national trails are close by. The village has a number of amenities including shop and pubs.
The weekend is for any adult member and their partners or friends interested in walking or in the Girlguiding Walking Scheme. Come and walk with friends on a relaxed fun walking weekend, or start working towards your level 2 Girlguiding walking qualification or if you are ready, complete your level 2 assessment.
The programme for Level 2 training and assessment will be run separately to the leisure walks. The opportunity to lead a level 2 walk is available for those who wish to gain log book walks and experience.

- Leisure walks – tailored to the groups needs
- Approved Girlguiding Level 2 training
- Approved Girlguiding Level 2 assessment
The price of the weekend includes 2 nights accommodation indoors at Cote Ghyll Mill and all meals from Friday evening to Sunday lunchtime. Transport to and from the event is not included but lifts to/from Thirsk train station can be arranged upon request. Please contact the NEE office if you would like to arrange this.
If you would like to do the level 2 training or assessment, you will need to supply your own:
- Copy of the Girlguiding Walking Scheme booklet, downloadable from Girlguiding Trading
- OS map, number OL26 North York Moors (with map case or waterproofing)
- Compass (e.g. Silva Expedition 4 Compass would be ideal, otherwise this must have 360o on it)
- Torch suitable for finding the way in the dark (e.g. Petzl Tikkina) Don’t forget your 20% GGUK discount in Cotswold.
If you are working towards an outdoor qualification, bursaries are available from Girlguiding North East England. Please submit an application form to the Region office.
How to apply
Bookings are taken on our website, through our online booking form. In booking onto this event you accept the Booking Terms and Conditions for Walking Weekend.
You can still pay by card, bank transfer or cheque, just select the option at check out. Go to the North East England website and view the calendar for October 2017.
No bookings will be taken after 22 September 2017.
