BP Steaming Ahead 2017
Girls from the Region had a great time on the Steaming Ahead BP Adventure weekend.
They arrived on Friday evening at Holme House near Grosmont where the girls had a chance to get to know each other.
On Saturday the girls worked really hard alongside the North Yorkshire Moor Railway volunteers.
Olivia said that she found it challenging cleaning the train and diesel shunter because it wasn’t something she would normally do but she really enjoyed it.
The girls also cleaned and painted the fencing around the picnic area and the picnic tables and benches.
Some of the girls repaired the public footpath alongside the track, taking barrow loads of ash from the steam engines and filling in the holes. They also cleared vegetation and undergrowth from around the viewing area. Charlotte enjoyed working on the various areas of the railway as it showed the different aspects of the NYMR not just the trains.
All this work helped to improve the site ready for the summer visitors to the railway.
After a hard days work the girls enjoyed some crafts and free time back at Holme House.
On Sunday they were up bright and early for a trip to Whitby on a steam train where they enjoyed lunch in the sunshine.
All the girls thoroughly enjoyed the weekend making friends with girls from across the Region.
