An opportunity for district and division commissioners, commissioner mentors and those trainers who train commissioners to receive the Girlguiding Level 4 Safe Space training.

 

Fees and expenses – There is a nominal fee of £10 to contribute towards the cost of the training and refreshments.  It is perfectly acceptable to take this fee out of the funds for whatever level you are a commissioner – for example a district commissioner from district funds and so on.

It is also acceptable to take travel costs from these funds.  It MAY be that your county can make a contribution towards your travel costs – please discuss this with your county commissioner.

 

Timings and Refreshments – Refreshments (drinks and pastries) will be served from 10.00 am, please arrive by 10.15 am as the training will start at 10.30 am prompt.  Tea and Coffee breaks will be included but please bring your own packed lunch.  We expect the training to end by 3.30 pm.

 

Numbers are strictly limited and we expect this training to be over-subscribed.  If you have a booked place and then cannot attend please let us know so that we can offer the place to someone else.

 

Joining instructions for this training will be sent to all participants two weeks before the event.

 

PLEASE NOTE:  Commissioners need to have completed Safe Space Levels 1 – 3 before they attend this training.  The ideal is to have done these face to face – contact your county training organiser for details – but if you cannot get to attend face to face training’s on this occasion it is acceptable to do the training’s for Levels 1 to 3 online before you come.

This is a weekend event for Brownies and their ratio leaders and includes 2 nights accommodation (either indoor* or camping), a range of exciting outdoor activities for the girls and all meals from Friday supper until Sunday lunch.

 

The girls will do 8 activities each from those available over the weekend, these activities will be organised and run by the venue.

This is a large scale event for Guides who are working on their BP Award and have completed at least 6 of their challenges.  It will be a celebration of their achievements and an opportunity to share their experiences with other Guides whilst having fun and learning what else guiding has to offer them.

 

Ordinarily, no more than six girls from the same unit will be accepted for the weekend and girls who do know each other are likely to be split up during the weekend to enable them to make new friends and learn from the experiences of others.  If a unit has in excess of six girls and cannot find a place on another Adventure for the extra ones please email us at info@girlguidingnortheast.org.uk and we will consider each such application on an individual basis.

Baden Powell Adventure 2019 – Steaming Ahead

This is for Guides who are working on their BP Award and have completed at least 6 of their challenges.  It will be a celebration of their achievements and an opportunity to share their experiences with other Guides whilst having fun and learning what else guiding has to offer them.

 

Girls will need to arrive at Home House, Esk Valley, Grosmont, North Yorkshire, YO22 5BG on Friday 17 May at 7.00 pm and be collected on Sunday 19 May at 3.30 pm.  We cannot accept any girls arriving on Saturday morning due to the programme arranged.  No exceptions will be made in this respect.  Supper will be provided on Friday night but not a full meal.

 

We will spend Saturday working in the engine sheds of the North York Moors Railway at Grosmont Station.  Hopefully this will include cleaning a steam engine, although this is dependent on availability on the day, as will a footplate experience.  Other projects will also be undertaken.  On Sunday there will be a train trip into Whitby where the girls will be allowed free time in small groups before returning to Grosmont.

 

It will be essential for the girls to bring leather/sturdy walking boots (these may get oily) in order to be allowed to work in the engine sheds and yard.  Soft trainers are unsuitable and will not be allowed.  Protective suits, hi-viz vests and rubberised gloves will be provided and we will have to adhere to MYMR safety regulations in order to take part.  More information about clothing requirements will be sent after bookings have closed.

 

No more than four girls from the same unit will be accepted for the weekend and girls who do know each other are likely to be split up during the weekend to enable them to make new friends and learn from the experiences of others.

DofE / The Senior Section Walking Weekend 2019

 

What? This weekend will cover most of the DofE expedition training needed for Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.
When? 13-14 April 2019
Where? Grinton Lodge YHA, Grinton, North Yorkshire, DL11 6HS
Who for? Girlguiding DofE participants, DofE Leaders, those doing a walking expedition for their Queen’s Guide Award
How much?

£55 (includes accommodation, dinner, bed & breakfast at the youth hostel)

The weekend will include training on navigation skills, route planning, map reading, food and cooking. You will also have time to socialise and make new friends. Walks will be tailored to Bronze, Silver and Gold levels as required and there may be an opportunity to plan further expeditions. You will need to bring a packed lunch for Saturday and make your own way to and from the venue.

 

This is the first stage of the three expedition events for those hoping to complete the expedition section. Practice expeditions for Bronze/Silver will take place on 19-21 July 2019 and Gold will take place from 19-23 July 2019.  Assessment expeditions for Bronze will take place on 30-31 August 2019, for Silver on 29-31 August 2019, and Gold will take place from the late afternoon of 27 August – 31 August 2019.  Please click the above links for more information on each level.

 

This event is open to Girlguiding DofE Award participants and those doing a walking expedition for Queen’s Guide. DofE participants should be registered for the award before attending this event. Leaders running DofE units may also apply to shadow groups and gain experience in running the expedition section of the DofE Award. There is funding available to help leaders working with young people in deprived areas.  Please ask for an application form.

Girls will need to arrive at Snozone, Xscape, Castleford, WF10 4TA at midday on Saturday and be collected at midday on Sunday.

World of Opportunities Weekend 2019

What?

World of Opportunities is a weekend for all young members of guiding over the age of 10 to find out more about what international guiding is all about and what opportunities are available.

 

World of Opportunities  will be used for selection for older Guides and Rangers for international opportunities in 2020 – please see below regarding younger Guides who are eligible for ICE .

 

Please note that Guides who are the correct age for ICE 2020 (born after 1.8.06) will be attending this event for information only and no offers for ICE places will be made at the event.  A separate event will take place for ICE 2020 in Summer 2019.  Details will be published in due course on the region event calendar.

Based at the Carlton Adventure Centre on the edge of the North York Moors, we’ll spend the weekend working on the skills you need to explore the World around you. You’ll take part in activities and make new friends to share your adventures with too.

During the weekend we’ll also be able to tell you about the International Community Experience (ICE) which gives Guides aged between 11 and 13 an opportunity to learn about community action, help to increase their global awareness and prepare them for international experiences – but until then you can find out more here.   Please note that no offers for ICE places will be made at the event and a separate event will take place for ICE 2020 in Summer 2019 – please look out for more details in the due course on the region event calendar.

There is a limited amount of indoor accommodation available at the venue or you can choose to camp.  If camping, you will need to bring your own tent and personal equipment. Units, districts and divisions may have tents you can borrow.  Both ticket types will be fully catered.

Whether you want to come on your own or as part of a group we’ll make sure that you have a great time and leave with lots of ideas to plan your next international adventure.

Leadership Qualification Day – Leeds

Leadership Qualification Day 2019 – Leeds

 

Aimed at leaders in training who are undertaking their ALQ and need to complete particular elements and also qualified leaders who require a Level 3 Safe Space training.

Safe Space Levels 1, 2 & 3 (full day)

Safe Space Levels 1 & 2 (half day – morning)

Safe Space Level 3 (half day – afternoon)

In addition there will be a Mentor Support Group/Forum.  This is to be an ‘air and share’ group session to discuss training requirements and will be led by the region Leadership Qualifications Coordinator.  This will be held in the afternoon – exact times to be confirmed.
