Walking Qualification (Level 2) Training Weekend – 26-28 October 2018

What? The level 2 training weekend for anyone would like to start their journey on the path to achieving a level 2 Girlguiding walking qualification.
When? 26-28 October 2018
Where? Cheviot View, Kirknewton, Northumberland, NE71 6XG
Who for? Adult members and their friends
How much?  £85.00

Girlguiding North East England is holding its annual autumn walking weekend in Northumberland and you are welcome to join us!

Cheviot View is on the northern edge of the beautiful Cheviot Hills.  The recently rebuilt Cheviot View is a fantastic base for this weekend with many walks and areas for the walking weekend. You can even make it to Scotland in the day.

The weekend is for any adult member and their partners or friends that are ready to start their journey on the path to achieving a level 2 Girlguiding walking qualification. If you would like to take your girls into areas that are beyond the local park this is the qualification for you. You do not need to have a level 1 walking qualification to do this but some basic map skills would be an advantage.

The price of the weekend includes 2 nights accommodation indoors at Cheviot View and all meals from Friday evening to Sunday lunchtime. Transport to and from the event is not included but lifts to/from Wooler (there is a good train service to Berwick and bus to Wooler) can be arranged upon request. Please contact the NEE office if you would like to arrange this.

If you would like to do the level 2 training, you will need to supply your own:

  • Copy of the Girlguiding Walking Scheme booklet, downloadable from Girlguiding Trading
  • OS map, number OL16 Cheviot Hills (with map case or waterproofing)
  • Compass (e.g. Silva Expedition 4 Compass would be ideal, otherwise this must have 360o on it)
  • Torch suitable for finding the way in the dark (e.g. Petzl Tikkina)

Don’t forget your 20% GGUK discount in Cotswold and 10% in Go Outdoors.

Bursaries are available from Girlguiding North East England and details can be found here.

When? 21-23 September 2018
Where? Bradley Wood Campsite and Activity Centre, Brighouse, West Yorkshire, HD6 3TU
Who for? Guides 10+, Senior Section and Adults, alone or with Units
How much?

Girl Friday-Sunday Camping – £50

Adult Friday-Sunday Camping – £50

Adult Friday-Sunday Indoor Accommodation – £60

Girl – Saturday Day Ticket – £15

Adult – Saturday Day Ticket – £10

Based at the brilliant Bradley Wood Campsite and Activity Centre in West Yorkshire we’ll spend the weekend working on the skills you need to explore the World around you. You’ll take part in activities, work towards badges and you’ll make new friends to share your adventures with too.

Whether you want to come for one or two days, on your own or as part of a group we’ll make sure that you have a great time and leave with lots of ideas to plan your next international adventure.

During the weekend we’ll also be able to tell you about the International Community Experience (ICE) which gives Guides aged between 11 and 13 an opportunity to learn about community action, help to increase their global awareness and prepare them for international experiences – but until then you can find out more here.

Find out more about this exciting opportunity by downloading the flyer here.

Already decided you’re coming along? Get your name on the list today by signing up here.

Looking for some inspiration for international themed meetings? The Spring 2018 issue of Guiding magazine is jam packed with ideas – download a copy to get started.

Trainings will be tailored to individuals with adults being asked to specify after booking what trainings and information they would like to receive at the weekend.  Adult training can include general courses such as Safe Space and 1st Response – trainings will then be organised and run on a book and go system at the weekend.

Participants will be chosen from the weekend to attend planned region international trips and more information will be provided regarding these at the weekend.

The weekend will be flexible with participants being able to attend for the whole weekend (7.30pm Friday until approximately 2.00 pm Sunday – girls camping and adults either camping or indoors) or just the Saturday.  All members can attend as individuals or as part of a group, with plenty of opportunities available to make new friends and catch up with current ones.

If camping, you will need to bring your own tent and personal equipment. Units, districts and divisions may have tents you can borrow.  The closest railway station is Brighouse, collection can be arranged from there.

If you are an adult interested in volunteering to help run the World of Opportunities weekend please do not book a ticket.  You need in the first instance to send an email to international@girlguidingnortheast.org.uk.  A member of the International Team will then contact you.

Bookings will close at 5pm on Wednesday 8 August 2018.

You can pay by card, bank transfer or cheque, just select the option at check out once bookings open.

If you have any questions regarding this event please contact the region office by emailing info@girlguidingnortheast.org.uk.  Alternatively, give us a call on 01904 676076.
