Walking Group

Welcome to the Girlguiding North East England social walking group.  If you are an adult member of Girlguiding (or their partner), enjoy walking, and would like to expand your repertoire of walks or share a favourite walk with other people in the Region, then this is the group for you.

We meet once a month on either a Saturday or a Sunday for a social walk averaging around 10 miles in the day.  The walks take place in areas such as the Yorkshire Dales, North Pennines, the Cheviots, the Peak District and North York Moors and rotate around the Region so that everyone has a walk local to them at some time in the year.

The walks vary in length and difficulty and are led by different people (usually someone with local knowledge), so if you have a favourite walk you would like to introduce to us do let us know, we are always looking for new and interesting routes.  Alternatively if you just want to come along as part of the group and enjoy a good day out that’s fine. We usually end the walk close to a pub or café.

Note – You don’t need any qualifications to lead a walk because there will always be someone present that is qualified to an appropriate standard.

Please take a look at our progress report to see what we’ve been up to.

How do I join in?

Details of the walks will be posted on the Region Calendar in the month before the walk.  If you want to join a walk then please send your name, home contact number and details of a next of kin to walkinggroup@girlguidingnortheast.org.uk two weeks before the walk.  The walk leader will then ensure that you have up to date information about the walk.

What do I need to bring?

boots

Just the usual requirements for a day on the hill:

  • walking boots/shoes
  • a rucksack containing a packed lunch, a drink, waterproofs, spare clothing, gloves, hat/sunhat, personal 1st aid kit
  • if you wish to do so, a map of the area.

If you would like us to email you with details of the group’s upcoming walks please email walkinggroup@girlguidingnortheast.org.uk and ask to be added to the walking group mailing list.
