Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteering for Girlguiding:  Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK. By volunteering with us, you can help us create amazing opportunities for all girls in North East England. Our volunteers give girls a space where they can build their confidence, raise their aspirations and have fantastic fun. They run projects, events and activities that give girls the opportunity to discover their potential and learn new skills. They passionately believe that girls can be a powerful force for good. There are lots of ways you can volunteer with Girlguiding – it’s flexible and can be arranged to fit around a busy lifestyle. No matter how much or how little time you have, every hour counts.

Join the North East England Region team: A number of exciting volunteer opportunities have arisen to be involved with the Region at strategic level.  Following the recent review of the governance structure at North East England the executive team have created some new roles to help deliver the Region strategy.

At this time we are specifically looking for:

  • Deputy Chief Commissioner (Excellence)  A new role in the Chief Commissioner team has been developed for a Deputy Chief Commissioner. Working with the Chief Commissioner and other Deputies, this role holder with be the fourth member of the Chief Commissioner team.  This will be a two year appointment, which will last to the end of the current team’s tenure.  The new Deputy role will lead on the Excellence strand of the strategic plan, and be the link between the Trustee group, the County Commissioner Group and Region Advisers. 
  • Trustees In the new Trustee Group we are looking for up to  3 new members.  We warmly encourage expressions of interest from all members of the Region, including those between the ages of 18 and 30.
  • Risk Group members
  • Finance Group members

Please give examples where you can of the skills and knowledge you have. These may have been gained either from inside guiding, from your work, or other volunteer roles outside of guiding.  (no more than 750 words).

Become a spokesperson for Girlguiding:  Girlguiding run spokesperson training sessions each year for anyone in guiding aged 14-25 who is passionate about telling other people about their fantastic guiding experiences.  The bookings have now closed for the next training but to find out more about becoming a spokesperson go to the opportunities page of the Girlguiding website and select ‘becoming a spokesperson for Girlguiding’.  If you would like us to let you know when the next training is available please email Girlguiding North East England and we will inform you as soon as we receive any information.

Paid Opportunities

We currently have two vacancies for paid staff in  the Region office at Monks Cross, York.  If you have any questions about either of these roles please contact the office on 01904 676076 and speak to the Region Manager, or email us.

Administration Assistant:  We are looking for a full time Administration Assistant to join our staff team.  In this role you would assist the whole team by providing general administration support, including answering the telephone and responding to email enquiries.   Full details of the role and the person specification can be found in the Administration Assistant Application Information Pack.

Digital Marketing Intern/Apprentice (12 month contract):  We have an exciting opportunity for someone interested in building their career in the field of digital marketing to spend a year with us. During this time they will develop their experience of working within an office environment and for a volunteer led charity, and in return will use their skills in digital marketing to help us to improve our online presence.  This role would suit either a recent graduate wanting to consolidate their learning while gaining valuable work experience in a charity setting, or someone who has just finished their A Levels and would like to do an apprenticeship in digital marketing.  More information about this role can be found in the Digital Marketing Intern Information Pack.
