Administration Assistant role
35 hours per week – to be worked between 9am to 4.30pm (some evening and weekend working will be required)
We are looking for just the right person to join our friendly, busy small team and provide efficient administration support to the team within the York office, and to volunteers across the North East Region.
Girlguiding North East England is the region that covers the area from Northumberland in the north down to Sheffield and North Lincolnshire in the south.
As members of Girlguiding, girls have fun, adventure and the space to discover their potential. They have a safe space in which to be themselves, build friendships, gain life skills and make a positive difference to their lives and the communities around them. This couldn’t happen without our network of committed and skilled volunteers who make these opportunities available. Most of the activity in guiding is managed and delivered by the volunteers, but within the region we have an office (based just outside York, at Monks Cross) with a small team of paid staff who help behind the scenes. Working predominantly with the senior volunteers in guiding we ensure that people have access to the information and resources they need to provide exciting experiences for the girls and young women in the movement.
The administration assistant is a key role in the office, as it is the first point of contact many people will have with staff. From answering telephone enquiries to monitoring and managing the enquiry email account, you will quickly realise what a diverse range of questions and issues arise, and you will be expected to hit the ground running! A knowledge of Girlguiding or similar organisations would be an advantage but is not essential, as is experience of working with or as a volunteer. You will be proficient in a range of administrative skills, including use of Microsoft Office, following office procedures and effectively prioritising work – balancing reactive and proactive tasks. It’s also key that you can identify what you can deal with yourself and what should be passed on to colleagues.
We are a small office team and work very collaboratively to make sure we deliver the highest level of service possible to our volunteers. This means that every role is diverse, and we work flexibly to help each other out whenever needed.
