Region Walking Group – June 2024 Walk

Walk Information Sheet : June 2024

Name of Walk: A Walk on the North Yorks Moors to the W of Bilsdale.

Date and Time: Saturday 15 June,2024, meet 9.45 for 10.00am start.

Meeting Point: Moor Gate, parking place at the N end of Hawnby Hill, GR SE 539917,  Map, Explorer OL26, North York Moors West. Parking free.  Nearest Toilets, Helmsley.

Approximate length of walk/difficulty level: 18.0 km (11 miles), total ascent 420m, L2, mostly on tracks.

Details: From the parking pace we head E towards Sportsman’s Hall, cross Ladhill Beck and eventually join a track which takes us to Bilsdale West Moor. A further track is then followed NW across Wetherhouse Moor to its junc with the S/N Spine route which leads to Bilsdale Transmitter and eventually Wether Hill. We turn left here ,SW,and make our way down to Arns Gill and Head House, cross the Gill again and proceed towards Scotland Farm. A short road walk below the farm takes us to a footpath which climbs back on to Hawnby Moor and here we turn south and follow the Spine path again back to the cars. If you have any energy left you can climb Hawnby Hill !
