Peer Education.
Peer Education.
Peer Education is a Girlguiding-wide initiative which trains young members aged 14 to 25 to lead interactive, empowering sessions on the issues girls told us they want to talk about. Our Peer Educators develop wonderful tools for leadership and discussion, so they can share experiences, pass on skills, and make a real difference for younger members.
Why it works
Peer Educators are relatable to the girls because they share similar life experiences. Peer Educators create a safe environment for girls to discuss important issues through a fun range of activities. Girls learn through these activities and take this knowledge out into their local communities.
Brownies, Guides and Rangers leave our sessions feeling empowered to make change.
The Sessions
Peer Educators deliver engaging, age-specific sessions, each developed with expert partners. These sessions usually take place face-to-face with Peer Educators running sessions within the unit.
Peer Education sessions also count towards UMA minutes – 60 for Brownies and 90 for Guides and Rangers.
Safe the World
This session gives young members the tools to spot and deal with unsafe situations.
Think Resilient
A session to discuss mental health and resilience to help girls cope when they’re faced with stress in school, families or friendships. This topic was developed with Young Minds.
Breaking Free
A session which empowers girls to challenge gender stereotypes that make it harder for them to achieve their goals. Gender stereotypes surround us from clothing, toys and the jobs we are encouraged to do. The session helps members first to identify, and then to challenge, gender stereotypes in their community.
Book a Peer Educator
If you’re interested in booking one of these great sessions, a Peer Educator will come prepared to run the whole meeting with you. The session will be packed with fun activities and the Peer Educator will draw on their training and their own life experiences to enable honest and educational discussions. They may also offer some activities to continue exploring the subject with your unit.
