Uniform
We are a uniformed organisation which gives us a sense of belonging and pride in being part of Girlguiding. The uniform is different for each section and for adult volunteers, and there is a range of items available.
If you’d like to know more:
We do our best to ensure it is affordable and inclusive. Some unit leaders will have access to second-hand uniform and there are often local depots who can help with sizing and purchasing uniform.
Please purchase official Girlguiding uniform through the online shop or local depot, as this way 100% of the profits go back into Girlguiding.
How much does it cost?
At Girlguiding we do our best to ensure our units are accessible to all girls.
Each young member will be asked to pay a subscription fee to their unit. The amount and frequency will vary, so some units will ask for subscriptions termly, others may have the option to pay weekly.
These fees are used to provide the girls with the fun and adventurous activities offered by Girlguiding.
Sometimes there may be additional charges for trips and residentials. This will be decided by the unit leader depending on the cost of the trip.

Our Programme
You may hear our volunteers talk about the ‘Girlguiding Programme’. This is the programme of activities that runs through all the sections and is followed by all our units.
The programme consists of 6 themes:
- Know myself
- Express myself
- Be well
- Have adventures
- Take action
- Skills for my future
The girls can earn badges for completing activities within each of these themes, some they will complete with their unit and some they can complete at home.

Our Volunteers
Our passionate and inspirational volunteers are essential to deliver what we do, and Girlguiding couldn’t happen without them.
There are lots of different volunteer roles, but if your daughter is a young member you are most likely to meet unit leaders.
Our unit leaders are trained in leadership and safe space. Some will also be first aiders and have other qualifications, such as those needed to take girls away overnight.

Safe Practice
Providing a safe space for all our members, both girls and adults, is at the heart of what we do. We are committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive girl-only space.
We want all our members to have fun. We know that providing challenging and adventurous activities helps to empower our girls and encourages them to try new things. But we also need to keep them safe.
We have clear safety guidelines, which all our volunteers must follow.
We have specialised qualifications for leaders and A Safe Space training, which every volunteer must complete.
We carry out compulsory recruitment checks on all volunteers who work directly with our young members.
We request two references and an informal discussion with a senior volunteer responsible for the management of volunteers.
