International Community Experience (ICE) is for Guides aged 11-13. The purpose of an ICE weekend is to give girls a taste of community action, increase their global awareness and prepare them for international experiences.
ICE present a chance for the girls to learn what community action involves in an international setting, exploring different communities by volunteering with community links such as RNIB, the Forestry Commission on the Isle of Man, Guide Dogs and other similar organisations.
The final project is five days long and includes exciting opportunities along with volunteering work. Recent projects have been to Republic of Ireland, Jersey & Northern Ireland.
Our current ICE coordinator, Lauren, loves taking Guides on an exciting trip away. Lauren told us: ‘Over the past 6 years I’ve seen girls gain so much from this experience. They have grown in confidence, faced challenges and made new friends. It’s things like this that makes ICE so special to me and adds fuel to my guiding light, as I’m sure it will for you too. Each ICE group becomes a family, creating a safe space for girls to express themselves and try new things.’
