- Meeting Point: Car Park at the foot of the White Horse, SE513811. Nearest toilets are at the Sutton Bank information centre. Parking costs £2.50 for the whole day. For most of you the easiest way to reach the car park will be to use the A170 from Thirsk and turn right after the Visitor Centre, signposted for the Gliding Club
- Approximate length of walk/difficulty level: 15.4km, 460m ascent. Level 2. Map Outdoor Leisure OL26 1:25000, North Yorks Moors West.
- Details: From the Car Park we follow the usual route below the White Horse, a gentle start, before climbing up to the Cleveland Way. Shortly before we reach the A170 we turn right and cross over to Hambleton where we again turn right towards the gliding club. The road bends right but we make a left to Shaw’s Gate and follow the track south past Scotch Corner almost to the minor road to Oldstead. Our next port of call is the disused Mount Snever Observatory, we didn’t know these places existed. The next leg leads SE to Wass and then Byland Abbey. Finally we turn for home and follow field paths to Oldstead and then the minor road towards Kilburn. The finish is up minor paths parallel to White Horse bank.
