Region Walking Group – November 2025 Walk

Walk Information Sheet: Saturday 15^th November 2025

• Name of Walk: NY Moors via the Wainstones
• Date and Time: Saturday 15^th November: meet 9.45am for 10.00am start
• Meeting Point: Village Hall Car Park, Chop Gate. Located at the southern end of the village adjacent to the B1257 Helmsley Road. Cost £6. GR SE559994 Postcode TS97JW. You need to either pay by card on the day or use the paybyphone app in advance
• OS Explorer OL26 North York Moors
• Approximate length of walk/difficulty level: 12.9km, 463m ascent, level 2
• Details: From Chop Gate we will walk NW along Cold Moor Lane track towards Carlton. From the summit of Cold Moor we walk north to join the Cleveland Way. Turning east we head towards the Wainstones (the largest sandstone crags in the area). We then descend Hasty Bank, cross over the B1257 and head up to the beginning of Carr Ridge. At the crest of the hill, we turn off the Cleveland Way onto a bridlepath heading south along the bottom of Urra Moor. At Medd Crag, we head downhill, join a minor road near Bilsdale Hall and then back to the village and the car park.
