- Date and Time: Saturday 19 October 2024, meet 9.45 for 10.00am start
- Meeting Point: Car Park at Blanchland NY964504. Nearest toilets are by the river. You can park for a short time around the main square and walk down to the toilets as it is closer than the car park. The car park is to be found by driving through the village centre.
- Approximate length of walk/difficulty level: 14.3km, 244m ascent. Level 2. Map 307 and OL43. There is a cut out on the 307 just where we are walking.
- Details: From the Car Park we follow the route of Blanchland Geowalk. The walk passes the site of the old Shildon lead mine and Shildon Engine House and up to Pennypie House. It then crosses Blanchland Moor towards Slaley Forest at Actoncleugh Head. This section can be extremely muddy, even in good weather. We can then go through the forest for a bit of shelter for a brunch stop. The route then follows the Carriers Way across Bulbeck Common to the shooting hut at Blackburn Head where we can sit inside. We descend through Newbiggin Fell to Baybridge. The return to Blanchland is by the riverside route but in bad weather, there are alternatives.
